Umbrella
2007 is so much more than a library conference where delegates can
spend time discussing the key issues. It is an event where networking
with your peers is as important as the high level of knowledge you
will acquire from the conference.
The
Exhibition Opening Party
was a key opportunity for delegates to meet their colleagues and
existing and potential suppliers. The party took place on Thursday
28 June, at 16.45. Each
exhibition stand was supplied with wine and canapés, and
the party was a great way to break the ice and to renew old contacts.
With almost 1,000 delegates seeking to find out more about current
issues and future developments it was a great occasion for exhibitors
and delegates alike to assess current and future the market trends.
After
the highly-successful inaugural event in 2005, a highlight of this
year's programme was the Umbrella Awards Dinner on Thursday 28 June.
Overall sponsors Tribal hosted the dinner in the Refectory at The
De Havilland Campus at the University of Hertfordshire, which celebrated
success with seven awards. CILIP's Special Interest Groups
presented their awards in front of an audience of delegates and
guests, with Tribal also presenting a Technical Innovation Award.
The
evening provided an opportunity to recognise the awards winners
and the library profession as a whole, and to enjoy an opportunity
for relaxation and networking with colleagues.
It
comprised of pre-dinner drinks on the campus
followed
by a waitress-served dinner, following which the award winners will
be announced.

On
the evening of Friday 29 June delegates were offered the chance
to step back in time at an Elizabethan Banquet at Hatfield
House.
For
those delegates wishing for a quiet evening to reflect on the information
gathered during the conference there was the option of Dinner
at the De Havilland Campus.
