Early analysis from delegates expressed the exceptionally high level of all plenary speakers, leaving attendees feeling a sense of pride to belong to the library world.

Listed below are some further details of the keynote speakers.

Thursday 14.00

Lynne Brindley, Chief Executive of the British Library, will open Umbrella 2007 and speak about challenges facing the information profession.  It is anticipated she will be thought-provoking about the need for future proofing the profession.

Friday 14.30

Dr Alex Byrne, President of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) 2005 - 2007 and University Librarian at the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia.  He will speak on Advocacy and Freedom of Information; the challenges facing the library and information profession in the global information world .

Saturday 12.00

Leslie Burger, President of the American Library Association (ALA) 2006 - 2007 and Director, Princeton Public Library in New Jersey, USA. Leslie's presidential theme is Libraries transform communities, and this fits well with Umbrella 2007's theme of Catalysts for change.  She will talk about transformation with some "future gazing" and controversy thrown in.
