Katy Sidwell

Biography - Katy Sidwell has worked supporting science and engineering subject areas at Cranfield University and is now the Faculty Team Librarian for Engineering at the University of Leeds.  She is a marketing enthusiast.

Abstract - Leeds Read: a marketing case study of something completely different.

At Leeds University Library we wanted to promote the library for reading for pleasure and personal development, engage our customers with the library in a fun way to encourage them to look at the library differently, and publicise our Special Collections. Inspiration from the BBC’s Big Read and World Book Day gave us ‘Leeds Read’. Students and staff nominate a book they love and then vote from a shortlist to find the book that is the ‘Leeds Read’. The event has run successfully for two years, and in 2007 – it’s poetic. The session will describe the marketing effort and evaluate its success in engaging the university and wider community.
