John Partis  Photo of John Partis

Biography - John Partis is Assistant Librarian at Hurstpierpoint College, an independent school in West Sussex. He divides his time equally between the Senior and Prep Schools' Learning Resources Centres. He is particularly involved in the ongoing development of an Information Literacy (IL) Programme. He is teaching pupils from Year 3 to Year 8, the Library and Information Skills they will need throughout their time at Hurst and beyond. John is gradually integrating the IL teaching programme into the College's VLE. Using the VLE provides a rich learning experience and fosters independent learning.

Abstract - "Exploiting VLEs: bringing the library into the classroom"

This session will look at examining applications of VLEs in school libraries : teaching information skills, supporting reading projects, providing revision aids, promoting reading events, liaising with subject departments to produce interactive quizzes on the VLE to promote 'academic weeks'. It will also look at practical ways of incorporating both library and classroom in the VLE environment.
