Biography - Davina Borman is Subject Liaison Librarian for the School of Engineering and Design at Brunel University. Her role includes membership of the Library web development group with responsibility for usability testing. She is also a committee member of the PPRG (Special interest group of CILIP)and the ASLIB engineering group.

Abstract - Usability testing: Bernard and Belinda's route to information.

During the last two years, Brunel University Library has used usability testing to try to improve the Library's website.  The first iteration of testing was undertaken using library staff in the role of students. The second iteration used the same methodology with undergraduate students. The purpose of the testing was to discover how users interacted with the website when looking for information; specifically the access path to resources and the impact of marketing messages. This session will look at the challenges involved and the lessons learnt.
