Biography - Alistair is Professor of Library and Information History at Leeds Metropolitan University.  He is co- author of a recent book The Early Information Society and is co-editor  of  the Cambridge History of Libraries in Britain and Ireland .  S ince 2003 he has been Chair of the IFLA Section on Library History.

Abstract - The Early History of Knowledge Management

Knowledge management (KM) is promoted as something new and revolutionary. However, KM is not as new as you might think, for organisational learning has been a feature of modern organisations for a century or more, taking the form of organisational magazines, protocols and in-house libraries.
